Esteli is one of the largest cities of Nicaragua in the region known as “Las Segovias,” which includes also Matagalpa, Jinotega, Nueva Segovias and Madriz territorial departments. The Segovias is known by being the place where Sandino fought his war to end Nicaragua occupation by US forces during the 1930’s. During the 80s’, Esteli saw one of the fiercest combats between Sandinistas and Contras (US financed guerrilla). This might have happened because Esteli is strategically located along the Pan American Highway that connects Honduras and Nicaragua.

Esteli is also known for its weather, coffee and cigars. Esteli has a cool mild weather, as it occupies a plateau in the northern mountainous region of Nicaragua. The quality of cigars and coffee products from Esteli are considered of premium quality at a worldwide scale.
